This checklist is designed for HFDEO learners taking an online assessment from home, the station, or anywhere with an internet-connected device. Follow these steps to minimize interruptions and perform at your best.
The Day Before
Verify Requirements: Confirm device, browser, and any course-specific rules posted in your dashboard.
Update Your Browser: Use the latest version of a modern browser. Disable experimental extensions during the exam.
Test Your Device: Restart your device and close background apps. If your course recommends a specific screen size, confirm it now.
Internet Check: Aim for a stable broadband connection. If possible, connect via Ethernet or position yourself near the router.
Power Plan: Fully charge your device and keep your charger connected during the test.
30 Minutes Before You Start
Quiet Space: Choose a well-lit, distraction-free area. Let others know you’re testing.
Notifications Off: Silence phones, smartwatches, and messaging apps. Enable “Do Not Disturb.”
Close Extra Tabs: Keep only the exam window and any permitted materials open.
Allowed Materials: Have only the resources permitted by the course (e.g., calculator, notes) within reach.
Accessibility: Adjust font size, contrast, or assistive tools you normally use before launching the exam.
Time Check: Note the exam time limit and any section timers.
Starting the Exam
Sign in to your HFDEO account.
Open the course dashboard and select your assessment.
Review the instructions, permitted materials, and scoring details.
Confirm your device volume and any media playback if the exam includes audio or video.
Begin when you are ready and able to work without interruptions.
During the Exam
Pace Yourself: Use the timer. If a question is taking too long, mark it and move on.
Save as You Go: If a “Save” button is available, use it regularly. Many assessments auto-save, but manual saving adds protection.
Stay in the Window: Avoid switching apps or tabs unless the instructions allow it.
Honor Code: Complete the exam independently and follow all exam rules.
If Something Goes Wrong
Connection Drop: Do not refresh repeatedly. Wait a few seconds, then try reconnecting. Most exams resume where you left off.
Browser Freeze: Take a timestamp note, screenshot if possible, then close and reopen the browser and sign back in.
Power Loss: Reconnect power and restart as soon as possible. Return to the exam through your dashboard.
